Media Advisory - The face behind the shield
Event: Public Order Unit Demonstration and Information Session (POU)
Where: Frank Clair Stadium (Field Dome)
When: Tuesday April 9, 2002, 3 p.m.

Ottawa Police Service invites you to a short media presentation profiling the Public Order Unit.

This session aims to address crowd management issues with a focus on getting to know the "people behind the shields."

These police officers who volunteer for Public Order Unit duties are members of your community who are dedicated in making our neighbourhoods safe.

Members of the media are invited to observe a short training demonstration. Media will also have the opportunity to chat with commanders and officers who work on the front lines.

Meeting the demands of public order requires specialized training for police officers. These duties are support functions which go above and beyond regular policing duties.

This session is meant to raise awareness about the responsibility of front line police officers and provide some insight about the challenges they face carrying out these roles.
